Daniel Sturdy My son Daniel Sturdy was diagnosed with a Rhabdoid brain tumour in the right posterior fossa January 4th 1996. He had surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. He is now fifteen years old and doing well, but has cognitive problems and dyslexia. His dob is 27th October 1988. He has had no treatment since then but is on endocrine replacement drugs. I feel priveleged that Daniel is now nine years since diagnosis and treatment and has just received his gcse results. Madison HindtOur journey started in late October of 2003, Madison went from being a very active baby walking all over the house and eating every thing that was put in front of her to being very lethargic and uninterested in food of any kind. After 5 weeks of constant trips to the emergency room at St Marys Hospital in Rochester, MN (The Mayo Clinic) we were lucky enough to see the same doctor in consecutive visits. On December 7, 2003, (the 2nd visit) he ordered an ultra sound. At that time a mass was discovered on her left kidney. We were told at the time that it was probably an infected Kidney or worse case it might be a Nero-blastoma. Surgery was scheduled for December 9th, 2003, as the surgery stretched past 7 hrs our anxiety rose only to have our worst fears realized when the surgeon himself came to inform us of the diagnosis. He told us it was a type of cancer that was very aggressive and rarely seen. He told us it was a malignant Rhabdoid Tumor. To date the Mayo Clinic had never treated this particular type of cancer. At the time we were told that the outlook was not promising, they would do what they could but the rest was in Gods hands. For the next 6 months we lived at the hospital spending less then 30 days at our home. The oncology team and nursing staff at the Mayo Clinic was truly amazing. They made us feel as comfortable as we possibly could at this time. Radiation and chemo treatments stretched into June of2004 when they were put on hold because of Madison's frail condition and infections. We were told to return at 6week intervals for scans then 3 months and now we are at 6 month intervals. At this time there has been no sign of the cancer and Madison seems to be as strong and healthy as her twin sister. We have been truly blessed and we thank all those that prayed for our Madison.| Email:

Owen Lyons AT/RT Owen was diagnosed with AT/RT at 13 months old. Owen is 3 now. Owen has had two resections the second had internal radiation called Intra Beam at Children's Memorial in Chicago IL. He has had six rounds of high dose chemo, with stem cell rescue after the last three rounds of chemo. Owen has been tumor free since 07-06. Owen has been off treatment since 10-06. In July 07 Owen started having simple partial seizures. He has been having seizures for a year now with little luck controling them. Owen is scheduled to have a functioning hemisphrectomy on July 31st. It's not as scary as you think. This will get rid of Owen's seizures. Owen had a MRI 6-30-08 and there is still no evidence of disease. Owen started early childhood classes and he loves going to school. Owen amazes me everyday, and I am honored to be his mom. | Email:

Grayson KatabGrayson was healthy and with normal development until July 7, 2007, when a right temporal lobe tumor was diagnosed indicentally on CT scan done following a mild fall (he was 18 months old). He underwent gross tolal resection of the tumor that proved to be AT/RT of the brain with negative stain for INI1. At this time, a mass in the left kidney was also found and fully resected. This proved to be rhabodoid tumor of the kidney. Grayson went through 4 courses of a modified Dr. Finlay's headstart II protocal when an MRI in October (three months post diagnosis) proved his brain tumor came back. Grayson is now two and we are on a new path of treatment with promising results. |

ErinWe've recently joined the exclusive club where the tipples of choice are Mustard Gas, Platinum, Periwinkles and Poisons. Bet no-one outside of the cancer community ever thinks they should have to thank God those exist! When we named our child Erin on 18 January 2007, we knew it was a strong name; we would never have guessed how strong she needs to be. On Oct 31st 2007, a lump suddenly appeared on her right shoulder. When I say suddenly, I mean in the space of 5 minutes. Immediately, we rushed her to the local E (for those of you stateside, we're in the UK, so read "Accident Emergency" unit) who scratched their heads a lot said, "Mmm, don't know what that is." It increased in size rapidly dramatically over the next 3 weeks, during which, we were referred to Great Ormond Street Hospital in London. We finally had a diagnosis on 26th November 2007. I guess we are still at the beginning of our journey and I can only thank all of you for sharing your experiences and providing us some hope in these pages. Thanks are due to the Angels and their Families who have helped blaze the trail. This thing is just too frightening, and too damned aggressive for me to say much more than that here for now. God be with all of you.| Email:

Brookelynn Hunt AT/RT <STRONG>Brookelynn has AT/RT and she was diagnosed at the age of 13 months old. Brookelynn had a seizure and we had no clue why. We later found that it was caused from pressure on her brain due to her having a tumor. Brooke lost all use of her left side due to the seizure. Brooke had now regained her strength back. The day she was diagnosed was 8-31-07. 100% of the tumor was resected on 8-29-06 at Rainbow Baby Childrens Hospital in Cleveland. The tumor was the size of a gulf ball and was in the right side of her lower brain in the central lobe.We later packed our things and headed to St.Jude Childrens Hospital in Memphis Tennesse. We started treatment in Semptember of 06. Brookelynn recieved four rounds of Chemotherapy treatments and now is recieving 30 rounds of high dose radiation. Brookelynn has been clear sense September and we will be done with our treatments and headed home in April 2008. The lord has been by our side every step of the way and Brooke is doing excellent. Nicholas TimmsOur beautiful boy Nicholas was diagnosed with a malignat rhabdoid tumor in the liver and lungs just after he turned one. With not many tumors of this type treated in Australia, the doctors are using a protocol currently being used by another little girl in melbourne. So far results are ok, with some shrinkage occuring after 2 rounds of chemo. many more to come however. He is always surprising us with his cheekyness, loveable little laugh and genuninely just a joy to have around. Children are so resiliant so we have been told, he is prooving to be so. |

Shaine LynnI just decided to join this website- I have seen it before, but today I decided it was time to join. We live in Calgary, Canada- and this is our story. My son's name is Shaine and on Dec 31, 2006 he was diagnosed with a very large brain tumour that we later found out was ATRT. They told us he was probably not going to live the week. It has been quite a journey- as I'm sure we can all say. Shaine went through rounds of chemotherapy and a second surgery that resulted in a complete tumour resection. He then had high dose chemotherapy followed by stem cell rescue. After being hospitalized for 4 1/2 straight months- he was finally allowed to go home in May 2007. Shaine has MRI's every three months- and I feel blessed to say that Shaine has been clear since his second surgery! I would love to talk to other families who are going through the same thing- I feel we are all walking the same path, except in different shoes..| Email:

Tyler "Little Man" DoranI brought our son to the pediatrician with irritability and refusal of newly introduced cereal, fruits, and veggies. After an x-ray (normal), bloodwork (abnormal}, and later a US (mass seen) we had been told our son had cancer. Our "Little Man" was diagnosed April 8, 2008 at 6 months of age with hepatoblastoma. May 12, they changed our diagnosis to rhabdoid tumor. He has already had two rounds of chemo, a biopsy, and three blood transfusions. He is scheduled for liver resection June 11 at Children's Memorial in Chicago. |

Jonathan ShaddixJonathan was diagnosed with a brain tumor on April 3, 2008 at eight months of age. Following a partial resection surgery and biopsy we found that the tumor was AT/RT. He underwent a gross/near total resection surgery about 3 weeks later, and began chemo shortly thereafter, following the IRS-III protocol, minus intrathecal. He is receiving his treatment at Texas Children's Hospital in the Houston Medical Center. He is presently doing very well with his chemotherapy treatments, and is happy and healthy. |
