Owen had his surgery on July 31st and he is home and doing great.  This time recovery was a lot harder for him so it took three surgeries, but he ended up with a NG tube for feeding.  We made it through 6 months of treatment and 2 years later he needs one.  Owen wants to eat but it is hard for him to swallow.  So he gets mad and doesn';t want to try and more.  HELP!!!  We want him to start eating and drinking more.  He starts his early childhood program in 2 weeks and we go to Disney World for his Make a Wish trip September 22nd.  Not that I want to rush him, but he is ready to eat, and he wants to eat, so I just want him to be able to eat.  Any hints suggestion, or tips would be grately appreciated.

Hi Cyndi,

I hope things are going better with Owen's feeding tube.  I posted a bit about our post treatment experience with Jackson's feeding tube in Owen's guestbook a few days ago.

Reading that Owen is actually interested in eating (and knowing he was a good eater before surgery) suggests to me that he may be better off without the tube.  I would consider asking the docs to take it out now and see how he does.  If he continues not to eat after a few days, you can put it back in.  (Yes, it's traumatic to have a tube put in, but so is regularly vomiting).   Without the tube he will hopefully get hungry and have some positive experiences eating.  Good luck!

Well Owen pulled it out himself.  I guess we will give him a few days he has a follow up surgery appointment on Friday.  I'll let you know how it goes.
