Update on Hayden's Current Condition
Friday November 4, 2005.
Thanks so much everyone for your kind words and prayers. We left Memphis on Monday evening and spent the night in Nashville with our friends the Jarratts. We traveled the rest of the way home on Tuesday.
HaydenÆs prognosis is not good. The cancer has returned to his spinal fluid which is the worst place it could have gone. Subsequently, there are more tumors 'popping' up in the brain and probably the spine also.
He started ICE chemotherapy last week. The doctors are not sure if it will help or not but we felt we had to give it a try. I just hope we haven't made the situation worse. We are making a lot of difficult decisions. If Hayden tolerates the chemo well and the doctors think another round would be beneficial, we will return in a month for more chemo. Hayden really misses school and wants to go, but his ANC is dropping and he is very susceptible to infections so he has to stay isolated.
He is very tired and sleeps a lot. He has not been as sick on this chemo as he was before and is able to eat, mostly because he is on steroids to reduce the swelling in his brain. The swelling causes severe headaches, but are under control at this time.
