Have any of you had a difficult time getting consistent testing done for hearing loss on an infant/toddler? Nicholas showed HF hearing loss very quickly, but the test results always varied somewhat. He had several ABR's which showed HF hearing loss that was consistent with sensorineural damage. Then he had an ABR which showed that it was conductive hearing loss. A year ago, he had his last ABR which showed perfect hearing. We've never been able to explain these strange results. Tuesday, he went for a 'routine' hearing test which again showed results consistent with sensorineural hearing loss. A tympanogram showed that his middle ear is just fine. Soon he will have yet another ABR to determine the extent of the hearing loss. For a year we have thought that his hearing is just fine although I did think it was strange that he never makes 's,' 'f,' or 'th' sounds (those in the high frequencies).

He is also still having balance problems so we are going to do some more investigating. He'll have an MRI. Plus, I've been researching that Cisplatin not only causes high frequency hearing loss but can also cause vestibular (equilibrium) problems. We are also having his eyes checked again because we know that he is near sighted although we have not treated him for that. The dr. said that his world is close up and we didn't need to do anything yet. Balance is affected by sight, touch, and hearing so his problems could be a combination of all these factors.

Anyway, if any of you have any insight into these problems I would appreciate your comments and wisdom. We'd really like to get down to the bottom of this and have some results that we can trust.

Thanks,
