My name is Janice Martinez and Noah Gallegos is my nephew. My sister is Jennifer some of you may have met her at St.Jude hospital. Our situation is very hard for a few reasons.Jenny is actually like my daughter I pretty much raised her since she was 11 years old.Financially my husband and I are doing good however we have 2 children of our own. While Jenny and Ray and Noah were at St.Jude we sent her as much money as we could plus calling cards etc.Right now they are living with my mother in a one bedroom apartment.I would like some info on how to get our local news and paper invloved and also our community. We live in Albuquerque nm and this is all very new to me.Any info would be apreciated.\ \ \ \

One way to start is to write something up yourself and have it worded the way you want it. You can have it printed in letters to the editor, or you can take it in along with photos and tell them you would like someone to cover the story in 'lifestyles' section. Once you start getting attention, it will flow smoothly.

Then, contact the Lutheran Brotherhood and let them know you would like to do a benefit. They will help you make fliers, you can call the local radio stations and have them set up interviews. (sometimes you can only get on to the AM stations... but it's still heard). You can get an article put in the nearest big city paper you have. Have articles sent all over... even out of state!

I would love to sit down and tell you every aspect to follow, but without being there, it's difficult. Another thing to keep in mind, it's okay to have more than one benefit! Chayton battled this for seven months and there was at least three benefits that we attended for him. If you have a local channel where they post things, have his photo and family photos put up. Get an account at the bank for him and have the info posted. Any attention is good attention.

I live in Minnesota and benefits for Chayton were held in Iowa and Minnesota! Good luck. If you e-mail me, I can give you some secret tips that I don't want to just put out because if I do, too many people may try to take advantage of it and wreck it for those who really need it! Sadly, it is a concern. I'm not worried about Rhabdoid families, but we know that others come here.
